How TikTok Creators Actually Make Money
TikTok monetization is very different from YouTube. Instead of one dominant ad-revenue stream, TikTok creators stack several smaller sources: the Creator Rewards Program (formerly the Creator Fund), TikTok Shop affiliate commissions, Live Gifts, and brand deals. For most creators, brand deals and TikTok Shop are far more lucrative than the Creator Fund alone.
The Creator Fund pays very little per view — typically a fraction of a cent per 1,000 views — and payouts vary dramatically by country. Creators with a US, UK, or Western European audience earn meaningfully more per view than those with audiences in India, the Philippines, or Indonesia, because advertiser demand and gift-purchasing power differ by region.
TikTok Shop is where many creators now earn the most: by promoting products and earning a 5–15% affiliate commission on sales driven from their videos. Live Gifts reward consistent live streamers, and brand deals scale with your follower count and engagement rate.
